Letter From the Executive Director
Oregon summers are an incredible time to explore the state. I hope many of you are taking some vacation time to relax and recharge, to soak up some sun and maybe walk along one of Oregon’s scenic beaches.
At CIS, we focus on wellness and help Oregon’s cities and counties be healthier. Our medical plans include Canopy’s employee assistance program (EAP). This quarter, we highlight their comprehensive support for first responders. Canopy offers a robust EAP tailored specifically for our public safety professionals who dedicate their lives to serving our communities.
Paid time off is not limited to vacation, and hardworking staff also take time to address other personal needs outside of work hours. Workers are guaranteed Paid Leave Oregon benefits when they cannot work due to health or caregiving needs. Our human resource consultants stay on top of the complex compliance considerations. This quarter, we offer an important update to help you understand changes to Paid Leave Oregon and OFLA.
We have also been staying on top of the historic Grants Pass v. Johnson case and have defended the City all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. This quarterly report includes an extended piece which explains the decision, explores the implications and previews what comes next. The court ruled in the City’s favor but the complex issues arising from homelessness in our communities remain.
Defending a claim in the U.S. Supreme Court is a costly exercise, but we pool your resources to share costs that benefit all. Beyond claims and legal fees, we offer grant funds to alleviate the risk areas which are generating the biggest claims costs. Inside see how we spent almost $350,000 to support safety and security last year. We also preview the grant programs budgeted for this year.
Stay safe!
