1,528 new property/casualty claims were handled for the year, just two more than the previous year. Additionally, 155 new lawsuits were filed and defended for our members, bringing the total number of open litigated files to 243, with reserves exceeding $58 million.

We took nine cases to trial and secured victories in all nine, with the jury awarding no damages in eight cases and awarding less than demanded in one. Looking ahead, 27 trials are scheduled for 2025. Additionally, subrogation efforts led to the recovery of more than $2 million from responsible parties, helping to reduce overall claim costs.

The Pre-Loss team (formerly known as Hire-to-Retire) had a busy year helping CIS members. On average, the team worked with 96 different members each quarter and assisted with 816 new matters (a new record). The team also conducted 124 trainings, including multiple sessions of our popular Spring Supervisor Training program.

Risk Management made 389 in-person and virtual member visits. The team conducted 61 training sessions with 850 attendees and completed more than 99 Best Practice Surveys — general, jails, and law enforcement — statewide. They also facilitated a record $348,000 in member grants, while increasing funding for Shark Tank awards to $7,500, $5,000, and $2,500 (up from $5,000, $2,000, and $1,000). The increased awards for Shark Tank resulted in 11 members — an all-time high — submitting proposals.

The CIS Workers' Compensation nurse-treatment hotline, Rapid Care, received 171 claims by phone, with 37 members utilizing the resource. This program plays a crucial role in reducing the burden of 801 paperwork and providing professional support to employees involved in work-related injury incidents.

CIS Benefits had another successful Open Enrollment season, achieving a completion rate of over 83% for more than 12,000 covered employees. Overall, CIS Benefits proudly serves 27,066 individuals — employees/ volunteers and their family members — statewide.

3,994 members — representing 26.9% of the eligible population — logged into BeyondWell, a lifestyle program that helps improve health and well-being.

For the fifth consecutive year, the CIS Learning Center surpassed its previous record! 8,390 individuals from 245 member organizations completed 31,640 courses in 2024.

The 22nd CIS Annual Conference was held as a hybrid event, offering attendees the option to participate either in person, virtually, or through a combination of both. A total of 608 people attended, including 483 members and agents.

The popular conference featured 27 sessions that were live streamed and recorded, providing attendees with on-demand access. Additionally, 535 attendees logged into the conference platform a total of 1,115 times, taking full advantage of the hybrid format’s flexibility. The event received an average rating of 4.72 stars (out of 5), with 98% of attendees rating the event as either Excellent or Good.

Our Benefits experts conducted 112 sessions across the state, including 51 in-person meetings, 11 virtual webinars, and 32 pre-recorded presentations. Additionally, the Benefits team handled 745 calls during Open Enrollment, organized nine Benefits Fairs, and facilitated nine employer renewal and BAC meetings.
