Handled 1,667 new property/casualty claims for the year — up 1.3% from last year. There were 117 new lawsuits filed/defended for our members. We are defending 210 litigated files at a cost of $4.6 million with reserves on those in excess of $46 million.

Took two cases to trial and won both. Pursued subrogation opportunities and recovered nearly $1.25 million from the responsible parties — reducing our overall claim costs. A total of $672,663 was reimbursed to Workers’ Compensation members for Employer-at-Injury Program purchases, wage reimbursements, and CIS grants to get injured employees back on the job.
CIS Benefits staff responded to 1,683 emails — as well as 517 system bug emails and 1,153 helpline calls. Nearly 86% of members’ employees completed the open enrollment process.
CIS had 4,869 people complete online courses. Harassment, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion courses were primary training efforts. Nine onsite training sessions were provided to 184 individuals, and 15 virtual trainings were provided to 496 people.
Increased Learning Center Law Enforcement courses by ten times. Contracted with Lexipol and Legal & Liability Risk Management Institute (LLRMI) to add 43 web-based public-safety courses that have been completed 219 times. Pre-Loss team reviewed 12 Employee Handbooks and logged 589 new Pre-Loss Events. The Pre-Loss team also had over 1,000 H2R member contacts.
Loss trends demonstrated Pre-Loss successes as our independent actuaries indicated another reduction in funding for employment claims: $4.45 million (2019-20); $4.26 million (2020-21); $4.1 million (2021-22).
Four special web pages were created to help members stay up to date on unique coronavirus and wildfire issues and 120 different resources were posted.
